Memphis Public Libraries provides free notary services to the public during drop-in hours: WEDNESDAYS from Noon – 2 PM at the Central Library in the Business & Sciences Department on the 3rd floor.

Items we notarize include: • Affidavits • Beneficiary Designations for Retirement Accounts • Motor Vehicle Bill of Sale • Promissory Notes • Rental Agreements • Sworn Statements • Advance Directive for Healthcare (TN.gov form only) • Powers of Attorney. 

Items we do not notarize include: • Contracts • Deeds • Living Trusts • Passports • Real Estate Transactions • Vital Records (including Marriage Licenses, Divorce Papers, Birth/Death Certificates) • Wills 

PLEASE NOTE: • Service is walk-in only during drop-in hours. • It is recommended that customers call before coming in to verify a notary is available. • All signers must be 18 or above and provide a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a State ID or Driver’s License, Military ID, or US passport). • The name on the ID must match the name on the document. • Documents should be completed and ready to sign. • Library notaries can only notarize documents written in English. • Customers must bring their own witness when required, and the witness must also have an acceptable form of ID. • The witness must know the person requesting notary service.

Memphis Public Library Notaries are not attorneys licensed to practice law in the state of Tennessee and may not give legal advice. Notaries are not trained to help with legal decisions or preparing documents. They cannot offer advice on which document you may need or recommend the type of notarization required.
