(PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 10)

For July, our "page-to-screen" book club, I Read That Movie @ the Library, continues its 2-month selection, as we will be reading the second half of the epic 1965 sci-fi classic Dune by Frank Herbert. The story of Paul Atreides continues, as he joins with and unites the Fremen people of Arrakis in their existential struggle with House Harkonnen.

If you don't already have one, look for a copy of the book at the Humanities Desk on the 2nd Floor of the Central Library, as well as other locations in the MPL system. Participants are invited to finish reading the the book during July, then come for a screening of the 2024 film adaptation Dune (Part 2) directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, along with outstanding performances by an ensemble cast featuring Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Rebecca Ferguson, and others.

The screening (including popcorn, drinks, and other snacks!) will take place on July 27 at 2:00 p.m. in Room L-56 at the Central Library, followed by a discussion about the book and the movie.

(The calendar event for our June screening of Dune (Part 1) and discussion of the first half of the book can be found by clicking https://memphis.librarycalendar.com/event/i-read-movie-library-dune-part-1-9348.)

Even if you don't have the opportunity to read the book, you are welcome to join us to watch the movie and participate in the conversation!
