Program Description

Event Details

For April, our popular "page-to-screen" book club, I Read That Movie @ the Library, will read Emma, Jane Austen's classic 1815 novel of manners beloved by readers for over two centuries. Adding a little twist, our book club meeting will feature a screening of the 1995 coming-of-age movie Clueless that was described by entertainment website ScreenRant earlier this year as "the best, most creative version of Austen's Emma, and also the most definitive modern take on it."

Copies of the book will be available at the Humanities Desk on the 2nd Floor of the Central Library, as well as other locations in the MPL system. Participants are invited to read the book, then come for a screening of the film, featuring performances by Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz (the movie's version of Emma Woodhouse) and Paul Rudd in his film debut.

The screening will take place on April 27 at 2:00 p.m. in Room L-56 at the Central Library, followed by a discussion about the book and the movie.

Even if you don't have the opportunity to read the book, you are welcome to join us to watch the movie and participate in the conversation!
