Event Details

For May, our "page-to-screen" book club, I Read That Movie @ the Library, is reading the 1952 romance novel Carol by Patricia Highsmith, originally published as The Price of Salt under the pseudonym Claire Morgan. The book tells the story of a burgeoning romance between Therese, a young aspiring set designer working in a Manhattan department store, and Carol, a suburban housewife and mother trapped in a decaying marriage.

Participants are invited to read the book, then come for a screening of the 2015 film adaptation starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, and received numerous other accolades and awards such as Best Film and Best Screenplay from the New York Film Critics Circle.

Copies of the book are available at the Reference Desk in the Humanities Department on the 2nd floor of the Central Library.

The screening (including popcorn, drinks, and other snacks!) will take place on Saturday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Room L-56, followed by a discussion about the book and the film. Even if haven't read the book, you are welcome to join us to watch the movie and participate in the conversation!
