Event Details
For June, our "page-to-screen" book club, I Read That Movie @ the Library, is reading the 1998 novel Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions by Daniel Wallace. Drawing upon elements of the Odyssey and James Joyce's novel Ulysses, the story is about a young man trying to understand the truth of his dying father's seemingly fantastical life as he recounts the legends and myths surrounding the older man's many exploits.
Participants are invited to read the book, then come for a screening of the 2003 film adaptation directed by Tim Burton and featuring a star-studded cast, including Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, and Helena Bonham Carter, among others.
Copies of the book will be available at the Reference Desk in the Humanities Department on the 2nd floor of the Central Library.
The screening (including popcorn, drinks, and other snacks!) will take place on Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. in Room L-56, followed by a discussion about the book and the film. Even if haven't read the book, you are welcome to join us to watch the movie and participate in the conversation!
