Program Description

Event Details

For May, which has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month since 1949, our "page-to-screen" book club, I Read That Movie @ the Library, will read A Beautiful Mind, the 1998 biography of Nobel Prize-winner John Nash by Sylvia Nasar, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Biography and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in that category. The book recounts Nash's career as a brilliant mathematician and economist, including his battle with schizophrenia.

Copies of the book will be available at the Humanities Desk on the 2nd Floor of the Central Library, as well as other locations in the MPL system. Participants are invited to read the book, then come for a screening of the 2001 film adaptation directed by Ron Howard and starring Russell Crowe as Nash, which won four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

The screening will take place on May 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Room L-56 at the Central Library, followed by a discussion about the book and the movie.

Even if you don't have the opportunity to read the book, you are welcome to join us to watch the movie and participate in the conversation!
