Program Description

Event Details

Join us for the one-year anniversary of the Orange Mound Library and re-opening of the historic Melrose High School. We will be viewing Reimagined, a 30-minute documentary of the journey of Orange Mound residents who came together in 2018 to envision a new future for the original Melrose building. The film captures a three-day temporary reopening of the space, filled with music, food, inspiring speeches, and entertainment. This weekend sparked a sense of unity, nostalgia, and determination in community members, who saw an opportunity to build a new Crown Jewel for in Orange Mound. Fast forward a year after the grand opening of the Orange Mound Library, and significant progress has been achieved; yet, much work remains and new spaces await exploration.

After the documentary screening, there will be a speaker panel featuring community leaders Angela Barksdale and Jevonte Porter as well as HCD Deputy Director Felicia Harris, filmmaker Lakethen Mason, and Orange Mound Library leadership. They will discuss the future of the space and how Orange Mound residents can reignite the momentum that led to this historic project.
