For January , A Wider Angle, our monthly film series highlighting independent global cinema, will screen the 2019 film God of the Piano, directed by Israeli director Itay Tal. A NY Times Critic's Pick, the film features a stellar performance by Naama Preis, for which she won a Best Actress award at the Jerusalem Film Festival.

Anat (played by Preis) has never been able to reach her father’s exacting musical standards, and now her family's hope of producing a musical prodigy rests on her unborn son. After giving birth to a deaf child, Anat takes drastic measures to ensure that he becomes the musical prodigy her father always wanted. When the path she has set for her son to achieve his destiny as a great pianist hits an unexpected roadblock, Anat is forced to stand up to her father and confront the harsh realities of her decisions.
