Event Details
For August, A Wider Angle, our monthly film series highlighting independent global cinema, will screen the 2021 Guatemalan crime thriller Cadejo Blanco, written and directed by American filmmaker Justin Lerner. The film premiered in the Industry Selects section of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
After her sister goes missing, Sarita, a working-class girl from Guatemala City, travels to the seaside town of Puerto Barrios to infiltrate a group of young gang members. As she risks her life to join the gang, Sarita becomes involved with her sister’s dangerous ex-boyfriend and gets closer to learning what happened to her sister. Praised for its "gritty authenticity" and cast with almost entirely non-professional actors, Cadejo Blanco is an intense, nail-biting thriller that digs deep into the underbelly of gang culture.
In Spanish with English subtitles. (Running time 126 minutes)
