Workshop 3 of 3
Students will round out their screenwriting knowledge by preparing for the ultimate challenge: writing a 90-120 page feature screenplay. To write just a first draft of a feature can take months of work, so the purpose of this session is to break that up into digestible, manageable parts by creating a strong outline using the sequence method. Think of sequences like chapters in a book; approaching a 10-20 page chunk of writing is much less daunting than staring at hundreds of blank pages waiting to be written! (For this session, I would ask that students arrive with an idea or two in mind so we can get into the work of outlining by the end of the session). Specific learning objectives include:
- Loglines
- Sequences and Sequence Structure
- Big Story Beats (Inciting Incident, Break into Act 2, Midpoint/Reversal, Break into A3, 3rd Act twist)
- Group Outlining Exercise
- (if time allows) Breakout Groups to work on Individual Outlines
