 nt from the Memphis Library Foundation, a limited number of new copies wil
 l be given away, and additional copies will be available for checkout at t
 he 2nd floor Reference Desk at the Central Library.The screenings (includi

 lliant Career by Miles FranklinFor March, we are reading My Brilliant Care
 er, a 1901 novel by Australian writer Miles Franklin, published when she w
 as just 21. After her death in 1954, her estate funded the Miles Franklin 
 Literary Award, and she also lends her name to the Stella Prize--two of Au
 stralia's most prestigious literary honors. The novel is considered a
  cornerstone of Australian literature for its authentic portrayal of life 
 in the bush during a time when Australian national identity was being forg
 ed. It is also a classic of women's literature, featuring the strong-
 willed Sybylla (loosely based on Franklin), who seeks independence and a c
 areer of her own rather than the limited roles expected of women at the ti
 me.The 1979 film adaptation helped launched the careers of esteemed direct
 or Gillian Armstrong and actors Judy Davis and Sam Neill, earning numerous
  nominations and awards, including recognition from the Academy Awards, BA
 FTAs, Golden Globes, and the Cannes Film Festival.
